Says Who?
Live! by Holly Lewis
Discouraging & Trapped In The System Advisor says: “Holly, sometimes you just have to do ‘X’...that’s not the way it works, Holly. Sometimes you have to ....”
Holly aka Uberwoman says: “Holly, sometimes you just have to pave your own path/prove them wrong/go against the grain/take risks/jump overboard/get dirty/have faith...that’s the way it works, Holly. Sometimes you have to.”
Ladies and Gentlemen, do we have to run that beaten path, the path worn by Nike kicks, Wall Street-shoe-shiners, grovelers, soccer moms anxious to make money off their cute daughters or sporty sons, the everyday, ordinary, and overcrowded path? Where has that path ever brought me, you ask?
Need I say more? Well...of course I need say more and that’s because inevitably, my words will fall on at least a few deaf ears. And truthfully, I’m not here to change those unwilling to hear. I’m here for all of you tired of driving through life with the Grim Reaper sitting shotgun. I’m talking to all of you who are interested in doing new things. Newness people, newness.
A very unique and special friend recently told me, “Holly, do the uncommon thing.” The rest just seemed to melt and fall into that phrase. Do the uncommon thing. Hmmm...those words got me thinking. And previously I was told, “Holly, don’t do what the rest are doing. The path leading to life is narrow.” Again, the uncommon thing. What can it all mean?
Truly Living Means Creating
What are we creating if we do everything the way it has already been done? And even if someone has already done it, no matter. What truly matters is that you are filled with passion to create, to do it your way. This need not mean creating a rock out of your heart, becoming unable to understand and take in feedback. This mantra definitely doesn’t embrace forgetting what is most important in life and living without principles. But when we take time to really look at ourselves, our life, our path, our mission, our goals, our passion, where do we fit in? What are we even doing? What path are you walking on? The wide path leading off to destruction, or that narrow path, full of life, creativity, dreams, hopes, even some fears, but faith to keep you buoyant?

Repeat after me: “Says who? Do the uncommon thing my friend.”

Perhaps it was Gandhi that said: “That service is the noblest which is rendered for its own sake.”
Great point Steve. Life is all about the journey and not the destination. When we focus on staying present, we immerse ourselves in the beauty of what we are creating rather than some future event that has not even occurred. We want to walk our path focused on intention, and not focused on outcome.
reminds me of one of my favorite quotes…
“Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.” ~ Cecil Beaton
Fenix, I LOVE that quote!
It’s going up on my “whiteboard of inspirational quotes”, immediately.

Fenix, that quote is right in line with this blog. I noticed your profile reveals you to be quite the questioner, the non-conformist! Cheers to that spirit in us all!
O: yes! i made it to the whiteboard!!
H: very much a questioner! that doesn’t always go over well… but tough!
Fenix,
Truly, it does go over well. It just doesn’t appear to. One must always question, but be content to stay loyal once they find the answers. And it is truly a challenging path to walk, but highly rewarding. Even if those near us don’t respond well, the very beauty of the world always does, and we are supported on our journey.
In addition to doing the uncommon thing, I think it’s also important to remember to enjoy the ‘doing’ and the whole process, instead of doing something just for the end result. I forget what philosopher mentioned that, but it’s a genius statement nonetheless.
